The European ecolabel is the ecological label for all countries that are members of the European Union (1). It distinguishes high quality products that respect the environment and is intended for all types of products, except for foodstuffs, drinks, and pharmaceutical products.
The European ecolabel is based on a "global approach" that "takes into account the product life cycle starting from production, including the choice of raw materials, distribution, consumption, and use, until elimination after use". The goal is to better inform consumers about the impact that products have on the environment. An active awareness campaign was launched in 2002 in all countries in the European Union.
Among the product groups that are already labeled, you will find washing-up liquids, multi-use cleaners, dishwasher detergents, textile detergents, paints and varnishes for interior decoration, etc. This list changes regularly and updates can be viewed at the European ecolabel Web site (DG11)
